You Do Not Need an Interesting Reason

You don't need an interesting reason to come here.

A lot of what's written about chiropractic is aimed at athletes and pregnant women, and it can leave the impression you need a story to justify the appointment. You don't. Most of the people we see aren't training for anything. Their back just hurts.

Sleeping awkwardly. Carrying shopping from the High Street. An afternoon of gardening after a winter of none. Picking up a grandchild. Turning to reverse the car. Standing up from a low sofa and feeling something object.

People tell us these things almost sheepishly, as though the cause ought to have been more dramatic. It very rarely is. Backs mostly go doing ordinary things, usually after weeks of small accumulations that nobody noticed.

Back pain, neck pain, joint pain, headaches coming from the neck, muscle spasm and cramp, shoulder complaints, sciatica, and general aches and pains that have outstayed their welcome.

Sometimes, honestly, yes. A lot of aches settle by themselves within a couple of weeks, and we'd rather tell you that than book you in for six sessions you don't need.

Worth getting looked at sooner if it's been going on more than a few weeks, if it's getting worse rather than better, if it's stopping you sleeping, or if it's travelling into an arm or leg.

And if you’re not sure, ring and ask. The front desk will give you a straight answer, including “that sounds like your GP rather than us” when that’s the right answer.

Then we'll say so. We'd rather send you to the right person than keep you.
