Support Through All Three Trimesters, and After

Your body changes a lot in nine months, and it changes quickly. Ligaments soften. Your centre of gravity shifts forward and keeps shifting. By the third trimester you're carrying weight in a place you've never carried it before, usually on less sleep than you'd like.

All of that is normal. But normal can still ache, and plenty of women would rather not spend nine months assuming there's nothing to be done about it.

We start by listening. A first appointment is mostly conversation: what's sore, when it started, how far along you are, what your midwife has said, what you've already tried. Then a physical assessment, and if it's appropriate on the day, hands-on treatment.

The treatment itself is adapted. We use a table with a cushioned section that drops away, or we work with you on your side, so there's never pressure on the bump. The techniques are gentler than you might be picturing. If you've had chiropractic before and are expecting the same thing, it won't be.

Back pain, neck pain, sciatica, hip and joint pain, muscle spasm and the general aches that come with carrying a load your frame isn't used to. These are things we treat every day in people who aren't pregnant. We treat them in people who are, using techniques suited to pregnancy.

We'll be straightforward with you about what we think we can help with and what we can't. If something needs your midwife, GP or obstetrician, we'll tell you, and we'd rather tell you early.

You'll see Webster's mentioned a lot online. It's a specific chiropractic assessment and adjustment of the sacroiliac joint and the surrounding soft tissue, used with pregnant patients. That's what it is. Our chiropractors are trained in it and can talk you through whether it's relevant to you.

The building is buggy friendly with baby change, which matters more than you'd think when you come back with a newborn in tow. We're on Weiss Road, two minutes from Putney High Street.

Plenty of women carry on seeing us after the birth, when the aches change shape rather than disappear. That's normal, and there's no expectation either way.

Every pregnancy has a team around it. Partners, midwives, doctors, doulas, friends who've done it before. We're one part of that, not the centre of it, and we work happily alongside everyone else in it.
