Sporting Injuries in Putney
How Sporting Injuries Affect Your Joints and Active Recovery
Sporting injuries arrive in two ways.
There's the one where you know the exact moment. You felt it go, you stopped, and you've been walking oddly ever since.
Then there's the other kind. It was fine. Then it was fine but annoying. Then it was fine as long as you didn't do that one thing. Now it's six weeks later and you're googling at midnight. Most of the people we see are in the second group, and most of them waited longer than they should have.
What We Treat
Minor sports injuries and tensions, back and neck pain, joint pain, muscle spasm and cramp, and shoulder complaints. The recurring stuff that comes from repeating the same movement several thousand times a week, and the acute stuff that comes from one badly chosen movement on a Sunday.
What We Look At
Not only the sore bit.
An injury that appears in your calf usually has a story attached, and the story is often about load. What changed in the last month. A training block ramped too quickly. New shoes, a new bike fit, a new class, a return to something after a long gap.
We'll ask what you're training for and how much it matters to you, because someone eleven weeks out from a race needs a different plan from someone who plays five-a-side for their sanity. Both plans are legitimate. They're not the same plan.
The First Few Days
If it's just happened: keep moving gently within what's comfortable, don't push through sharp pain, and don't panic about ice versus heat. Use whichever one makes it feel better. The evidence for choosing between them is thinner than the internet suggests.
When it Isn't Us
If we think you've got a suspected fracture, a significant tear, a joint that won't take your weight or a knee that's locking, you need imaging we can't do or an opinion we're not qualified to give. We'll tell you that in the first appointment and point you in the right direction.
We'd rather lose the booking than string out six sessions on something that was never going to respond.
