Dr Craig becomes a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certified golf fitness instructor.
Amsterdam, August 2011. I had a great experience this year when I met the team at Titleist who have blended the understanding of physical limitations and restricted moved of hips, shoulders and spine with golf swing problem solving. The goal of working with a TPI golf pro is to not turn you into Tiger Woods but understand where your physical limitations lie and work around these. Too many golfers and their golf pros try to emulate the swings of the tour professionals without actually being able to physically move like one.
TPI enabled me to identify and help people overcome any physical restrictions that are limiting their golf swing potential. The course reviewed the latest in golf-specific health and fitness – from golf swing biomechanics, to physical screening techniques, to exercise prescriptions, to the most recent research and development in the field of golf swing analysis.
There were about 60 people present on this two day conference – half the room were golf pros/coaches and the other half were chiropractors, physiotherapists and fitness trainers. It was great to see all these professions coming together attempting to achieve a common goal of helping your golf swing.
Dr Greg Rose, in the photograph below with me, Dr Craig McLean, is an American chiropractor who co founded the Titleist Institute. It was great to see how he uses his understanding of human bio-mechanics as a chiropractor to help golfers discover their physical restrictions. He then suggests a series of golf specific exercises and if needed treatment to work on these problem areas hence improving your swing.
