Muscle Spasm

Muscle spasms are spontaneous muscle contractions that can happen at any time and are often extremely painful. They can pass quickly but are debilitating if they occur on a regular basis. They can appear in many different parts of the body but are particularly common in the feet and calf muscles.

Muscle spasms can be caused by a multitude of factors such as poor circulation, dehydration, inadequate stretching before exercise, overexertion and muscle fatigue.

They can also be a result of malfunctioning or pinched nerves, a side effect of medication or a result of lifestyle factors such as sitting at your computer for a long time, driving for long periods or using the wrong pillow.

Muscle spasms normally result in acute pain at the site of the spasm. The pain can be intense and last for a few seconds to several minutes. As the muscle is contracting, it may bulge and be noticeable beneath the skin.

One of our chiropractors will work with you to discover why you are experiencing muscle spasms. They will then develop a bespoke treatment plan that will be suitable for you and the pain you are experiencing. Chiropractic is a non invasive, drug free and very effective solution to muscle spasms.
