This March saw the team from Putney Chiropractic participate in the 2011 City Ski Championships in the beautiful alpine resort of Courmayeur in Italy.
This event, which has been running for 12 years, combines the disciplines of slalom and giant slalom for novices, amateurs and the more serious skiers together. The Championships were originally designed as a ski weekend for the folk that work in the city of London, but have evolved to include race catagories for the medical profession, the energy sector and property.
Performance Gain Team
Craig McLean, Edwina Waddell and Rebecca Gilbert were all present over the weekend and were an integral part of the new “Performance Gain” concept for 2011. This was an area set aside at the bottom of the slalom, where the chiropractors were on hand to adjust the participants while others were having their skiboots checked over by the boot doctors from Profeet and we all had the opportunity to test drive the new exclusive ski range from Zai.
The slalom race is held on the friday and is in the format of a dual slalom where teams of four race off against each other. The saturday sees the more serious racing which is the GS course, where lycra catsuits are common place (not on the PCC team you’ll be pleased to hear).
Putney Chiropractic Vs Ski Sunday
A special moment for the team was getting to watch Craig taking on Graham Bell at the downhill. It was a close call, but he was quick out the gates and luckily he didn’t miss the last gate this time!
Well known GB skiers and PCC clients participating in Courmayeur were Graham Bell (BBC Ski Sunday), Konrad Bartelski & Warren Smith. Other celebrities racing on the weekend were Damon Hill (ex-formula one world champ), Colin Jackson (110m hurdles) and they even let snowboarder/comedian Marcus Brigstoke enter!
We are thrilled to announce that the PCC Racers succeeded in winning the medical section of the Championships despite Craig missing the final gate in the slalom. This would ordinarially result in disqualification, but as the only competitors in the medical section, we remained victorious!
Thank you Momentum ski
A fantastic weekend organised by Momentum Ski, everything went without a hitch. We are already looking forward to next year’s championships, which are to be held in the lovely resort of Crans Montana. We also challenge any other local medical practices to join us to compete for the fastest medics in South London!
