Putney Chiropractic client testamonials and feedback
Dr Craig McLean
I know all about how backs can perform well and also how they can sometimes
let you down. In 2003 I suffered a massive disc herniation at the L4-5
level. This resulted in severe left leg pain and muscle weakness to
the point where I could no longer walk.
Disc herniations commonly occur due to long standing repeated micro
trauma to the lumbar discs. My history involved a combination of long
distance cycling, triathlon, golf, rowing, surfing, skiing and leaning
over patients all day as a chiropractor. Normal personal challenges
and some added life-stresses together with some biomechanical abnormalities
resulted in my disc gradually giving way.
Over the initial three months I was on the chiropractic table daily
having a combination of techniques aimed at reducing the pressure on
the sciatic nerve.
Unable
to work or exercise I resisted medical advice for surgery or spinal
injections, and continued to look after my body with good nutrition,
rest and chiropractic care from my colleagues at Putney. I later used
the services of an acupuncturist and reflexologist to help finish the
process of waking up my foot and leg.
How long did this take? Well, realistically for full strength to return
took 12 months for the lower back and leg. Today I still feel the occasional
niggle down the left leg, but this is managed well with regular chiropractic
care and massage.
The lessons I learnt from this is that healing takes time, and is something
that cannot be rushed. The quick fix solution does not guarantee long
term strength and can create more problems than it cures, as the underlying
cause of the symptoms are not always addressed. Most of all, anything
is possible, as long as you put your mind to it. Just to prove that
I am 100% well, have a look at what I’ve been up to recently!
