Sport Sport!
Lance Armstrong, seven times winner of Tour de
France, is a big Chiropractic fan, as are many of the professional
athletes whose main focus is on optimum performance from their
bodies.
In Lance's book 'Every Second Counts', he describes the role
Jeff Spencer - US Postal and Team Discovery Chiropractor -
played in the team:
'If you judged the most important
man on the Postal team
by the foot traffic in and out of his door, then it was Jeff.
Without him, we knew we'd never make it to Paris'
At Putney Chiropractic Centre we love sport and
helping people be their best in their chosen sport. Your enjoyment
and performance can improve massively with improved bio-mechanics
and balanced spinal alignment, whether you are walking the
dog or training for an Olympic gold.
At PCC we enjoy sport all year round, whether it's skiing,
running, cycling, swimming, surfing, golf, tennis, lawn bowls,
you name it, we'll try it. Below are listed groups of sports
that we have a special interest in.
Triathlon incorporating Running, Cycling and Swimming
We compete regularly in triathlon and understand the unique
stresses it places on your body, Swimming attacks the neck
and shoulders, Cycling the low back and Running the low back
and legs. Read from one of the best below…
Stu Mittleman 1000mile marathon runner and author of 'Slow
Burn' comments:
'…the equation of "skiing accident
+ surgery = no running"
was not an acceptable outcome to me... My chiropractic
doctor used muscle testing to find out which organs and
glands might be stressed out and therefore affecting the
workings of the muscles and bones.... I was amazed that
knee pain so debilitating and painful one minute could
disappear as if by magic the next.'
Rowing/Kayak/Canoe
Long hours training, not enough sleep, trying to keep up a
social life all around a full time job? We've been there done
that and own enough t-shirts that it is really quite embarrassing.
We can't make the training easier, but we can help your body
respond better and help you achieve the goals you aspire to.
Golf
Dr Craig has a fairly low handicap (11) and has been playing
for 12 years. Although a fair-weather golfer now he understands
the biomechanics of a golf swing and has had enough coaching
to understand why it is important to have good spinal strength
and flexibility.
Skiing
Warren Smith, Graham Bell and Konrad Bartelski all have something
to say about how chiropractic will improve your performance
on or off piste.
Football
Read a quote from the team Chiropractor (who is also the director
and head of the medical team) of AC Milan football club. He
set up a sports rehab lab that is leading the way for sporting
clubs world wide.
'When they asked me if I wanted
the job, I said, sure,
but on one condition. I really wanted to have the power
to control things. So the first thing that we did was to fire
the total medical staff. The second thing that we did was
to fire all the physiotherapists. And we started from scratch.
Basically, applying the principles of applied kinesiology
(a chiropractic technique), taking care of the structure,
the biochemical system, and the mental site.
We won the championship the first year….'

Rugby
It probably goes without saying that we see a lot of rugby
players at the practice! Impact with both the ground and other
players can cause a serious amount of imbalance in the body.
