World renowned skiers Graham
Bell and Konrad
Bartelski have been visiting the practice with great results.
Graham was due a further shoulder operation which has now
been postponed and we have enabled him to keep on with his
downhill runs when filming for the BBC's Ski Sunday program.
Konrad’s troublesome neck injury was resolved at PCC.
We work closely with Warren Smith of the Warren Smith Ski
Academy in Verbier since 2002. He has often flown direct from
Switzerland to Putney to get his spine adjusted and Warren
shares his story here. Dr Craig has been invited to be
a member of Warren's bio-mechanics
and physiology experts.
We also work with the Ski
Club of Great Britain who feature our strengthening exercises
on their website.
Passionate about skiing
We're mad on skiing at Putney Chiropractic. Dr Craig has done
seasons in the French Alps and using the skills that he had
on-mountain, combined with an understanding of the bio-mechanics
and demands on the body involved in skiing, have evolved a
concept to enable our clients to enjoy more of the mountain.
Working with many skiers, from very experienced to total novices,
we have noticed that most found that they were compromised
to some extent with their movement and confidence on the slopes.
Prepare your body for the piste
There are three different levels involved with chiroSki starting
at getting your body ready for the mountain. We make sure
our clients are in the best shape they can be before heading
off to the snow, and also have the best equipment and outstanding
coaching available to take them to the next level.
We work in association with Profeet,
a specialized ski boot fitter in Fulham, and the Warren
Smith Ski Academy in Verbier who both offer superb service
and get great results.
Bio-mechanical assessment
The chiroSki assessment involves looking at two different
areas of imbalance. The first involves a bio-mechanical testing
including range of motion and flexibility, and second is a
neurological assessment to determine the biomechanical and
neuro-muscular deficiencies unique to each individual including
myotomal strength, core strength and proprioception.
If imbalances are found in either the biomechanics or the
neurology then a course of treatment is set to resolve the
blocks to our clients performance. These can include:
- Significant turn preference
- Poor fore/aft control (back seat skiing)
- Early leg burn
- Back, leg, knee or foot pain
- Slow technical development (plateau)
- Office to piste transition
Bespoke programme of care
Clients are presented with a report and a unique tailored
programme using bespoke combination chiropractic treatment,
ski specific exercises, and alignment correction.
We also promote the importance of core strength and training
before heading off to the piste. Our exercises are designed
to improve optimal range of motion and strength across the
key joints used while skiing to increase performance and reduce
the chance of injury.
Exercise programmes for home or the gym
As with any sport, training the activity specific muscle group/s
will deliver the best results. Preparing before you head off
to the slopes should involve a programme of training that
includes both cardiovascular and specific exercises.
As with all our exercise programmes, for the best results
we recommend a thorough chiropractic consultation and examination.
You may require a course of chiropractic adjustments prior
to commencing any regime. Your chiropractor will tailor a
treatment program and exercise plan to suit your personal
performance requirements.
